It does get quite hot in the summer months, especially June through September. For example if you are coming for Panoply Arts Festival, it normally takes place at the end of April. It really depends what you want to do and see in the city. Huntsville is a good city to visit year round. There are also of course taxi and ride sharing options, including Uber and Lyft. There is a bike sharing program in downtown Huntsville which is operated by Pace. Public transit options are not great here, but there is a shuttle bus system which runs Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm, with a number of routes covering much of the city. The easiest option is definitely by car, parking is both excellent value and widely available, and this will be the easiest way to get between the downtown sites and those attractions which are further afield. Atlanta and Memphis are also within a 3.5 hour drive of Huntsville. Interstate 65 runs right past the city in a north/ south direction, linking the city to Birmingham in the south and Nashville in the north.
